Women’s Life Roles: How to Read a Recipe
Author: Katelyn Wissinger| Student, Living Education – Charlotte, 2025-26
The Living Education ladies baked pumpkin spice loaves and muffins in a recent life roles class in the Church HQ kitchen to learn how to read a recipe and to serve their local neighbors by their dorm. The students used a well-loved recipe of Mrs. McNair; she explained to them how to make substitutions, such as honey to replace sugar and walnuts instead of dates or raisins. Gift boxes were put together along with cards, and the baked goods were carefully placed inside. When the ladies returned to their dorm at the end of the day, each one was assigned to a neighbor’s house to gift their pumpkin spice loaves. Gifting handmade baked goods was an opportunity to show goodwill towards the neighbors and help them have a great Thanksgiving!
